One of the most rewarding things I’ve done, when it comes to putting this website together, is the setting up and running of the Cup O’ Tea Google+ Hangouts – currently titled Talkin’ Comic-Con: A Cup O’ Tea with An Englishman In San Diego. These weekly shows have allowed a number of us to embrace and celebrate the comic con lifestyle and culture beyond those four days in sunny California.
Broadcasting from wherever I can find solid enough internet every Sunday (10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT), we have had the opportunity to talk to some incredibly fascinating people on the show – with many more to come in the next couple of months, including Mike Armstrong from ReedPOP, Cameron Deuel from Funko, Shane Chebsey from the International Comic Expo (ICE) and Mike Marts from new and exciting comics imprint AfterShock Comics. Watch this space for more details.
I am constantly making strides to make the Hangouts a more polished and professional affair, rolling out new on-screen graphics and, coming soon, your actual honest-to-goodness opening titles, hopefully securing the rights to a little piece of music that I think you all know by now! To help people get settled, we’ve also added a countdown buffer to the Hangouts, allowing people to get settled and know when we are going to ‘go live’… and that’s where YOU can come in!
This week, I’m going to be making the opening countdown a more colourful and interactive section of the show, where you guys can send in your favourite photos and memories from San Diego Comic-Con – whether it be beauty shots of San Diego and the surrounding areas, off-site events (Nerd HQ, etc.), celebrity encounters or cracking cosplay that you’ve captured on camera.
Simply send them in to firstname.lastname@example.org (deadline: 6pm GMT, the Saturday before the Hangout), we’ll look at them and hopefully they’ll be selected for the countdown / end of show graphics. Your name will appear alongside the pic, of course, so everyone will know who has taken the chosen image and you can claim all the glory!
We’re really looking forward to seeing what pics you pull from your collections – I’m certain there’s plenty of great shots out there! Send yours in today!
