Two trailers for the brand new 2017 iteration of STAR TREK to hit screens, DISCOVERY, have landed – one, a longer, more aggressive and muscular version for the ‘Murican CBS All Access market (arriving via Screenrant), and one, a subtle edit for the Brits, who will be getting the show on Netflix. It’s got a song dubbed in there, and everything!
We also get to see JAMES FRAIN, acting all moody as Sarek, Spock’s father, and giving it the full buzzkill to Sonequa Martin-Green‘s First Officer Burnham. No sight of JASON ISAACS as the captain of the titular Starship as yet but no doubt he’ll start making an appearance on subsequent UK trailers – there’s no way they’re going to waste a chance for UK audiences to to get Lucius Malfoy himself in the hot seat, going ‘full Picard’.
But let’s be grateful for getting anything, seeing as we’ve been waiting for bloody ages for our first look at this highly anticipated series. We we’re supposed to have DISCOVERY release already but after a whole bunch of hiccups – including numerous delays to enhance the special effects of the series, and the jumping ship of original showrunner Bryan Fuller in preference of his AMERICAN GODS project – we now have these first glimpses of the series, and tentative release dates: “Fall 2017”. That’s “Autumn” to you and me.
We don’t know yet if we’re going to get the whole thing as a series dump – the first season has been expanded to fifteen episodes – or whether it will end up being a weekly release. One thing is for certain: with the anticipation that STAR TREK: DISCOVERY is whipping up since its initial announcement, CBS and Netflix will be making sure they get the most bang for their investments. Watch this space for more updates as they arrive…
