Trailer: Matt Damon / Ridley Scott’s The Martian viral marketing growls into life…
UPDATE (8th June 2016. Yes, the same day. Bear with us, it’ll all become clear…): Looks like providing that brief little tease, posted at the very start of the day, just wasn’t enough for the Marketing bods at 20th Century Fox and they’ve gone ahead with releasing the first full trailer for The Martian. With a definite vibe of ‘survivor desperation’ invoked by Gravity, spliced with a generous dollop of scientific ingenuity of Apollo 13 and the grim, desert landscapes of 127 Hours, this has the makings of quite the nail-biter. That is, if you haven’t read the book, of course. Enjoy…
If Matt Damon, Ridley Scott or Jessica Chastian – look, let’s be honest, any of this incredible cast – showed up to represent this film at Hall H next month, I would not be at all disappointed.
The viral marketing for Ridley Scott‘s The Martian stirs into life with this ‘in happier times’ pre-launch video for the mission which eventually does not end up fantastically well for Matt Damon‘s Mark Watney, a botanist and mechanical engineer stranded on Mars after calamities befall the crew after arriving on the planet. As they do. Way to keep up that faith in NASA’s capabilities, Hollywood!
The last time Ridley made an appearance at SDCC was via a live satellite link-up in 2011 from a very grey and cold Dettifoss waterfall in Iceland, beamed directly to Hall H where Damon Lindelof and Charlize Theron got the better end of the stick, sat in the warm California climes, and promoted the then-forthcoming Prometheus. It would be nice to actually have 20th Century Fox bring the man to the stage in person this year.
What do we think, does this whet your appetite? Would you be up for this roster of Hollywood A-Listers joining us in San Diego? You know where the comments are…
THE MARTIAN is a forthcoming 20th Century Fox film, directed by RIDLEY SCOTT and starring Matt Damon, Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels and NAOMI SCOTT. Based on the novel by Andy Weir, it follows the misfortunes of Mars Mission astronaut Mark Watney, presumed dead after being caught in a fierce storm, and is left behind when the rest of the crew evacuate the planet and begin to head back to Earth. Watney finds himself stranded and alone, with only meagre supplies and his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal home, despite knowing that even if his survival is made known there is no realistic prospect for a rescue. (Wikipedia) The film is due for international release on 25th November, 2015.
