Each week, we take a look at the forthcoming ALTERNA COMICS titles, either in store or made available on the comiXology digital comics platform, giving you a comprehensive guide to your comics pull list.

A bonkers one, this, no getting around it.

  • FREELANCE BLUES #2 has writers Ian Daffern and Mike Leone, and artists Stephen Sayer and Vicki Tierney taking another off-kilter detour away from your average workplace. I’m a massive fan of Jamie Smart‘s CORPORATE SKULL webcomic and this shares similar DNA, just with less swears and sharp, Brit cynicism – there’s some sneaky espionage and epic fantasy world-building so there’s lots to enjoy. The artwork is loose and supple which makes things very unsettling, you don’t know where the story is heading from page to page. It’s a dark comic but thankfully not nastily too dark, it’s still errs to the side of fun… I’m interested to see which sticky corners this book will head to.

FREELANCE BLUES #2 is available on digital on ComiXology from today – do give this a punt, I think it’s worth the look-see.

Writer: Ian Daffern and Mike Leone
Artist: Stephen Sayer and Vicki Tierney
Cover: Stephen Sayer

“Every time Lance Bunkman starts a new job his bosses turn out to be evil and trying to take over the world. Fortunately, he’s the only one who can stop them. He’s got to fight his boss, save his co-workers, and then he needs a new job, because being a hero doesn’t pay the bills. Lance has been too busy working (not to mention dodging fireballs, chainsaws or poison arrows) to ever ask “Why me?” Now events are set in motion, that will make Lance learn more about himself, and the secrets of his sketchy employment, than he ever imagined. It’s a supernatural workplace horror comedy for anyone who ever felt that their job was sucking the life out of them.

Monsters at the workplace? No problem! Demons at the corner store?Piece of cake! Got a car that needs repairs and no money to fix it? That… could be bad!
