And the Golden Age of (Streaming) Television powers on – the money and resources being poured by the major streaming companies is becoming more and more pronounced, with companies like Netflix, Hulu and the new Disney streaming service splashing the cash and gobbling up the talent from traditional sources.
Today, Amazon Prime Video have nabbed the skills of the writer/producer behind the headliners from one of their biggest rivals: Justin Doble, the man behind STRANGER THINGS has closed an overall deal to develop genre television projects exclusively for the service.
“We have long admired Justin’s ability to create stories and characters that stoke fans’ passion,” said Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Event Series, Amazon Studios. “He has contributed to some of the best genre out there, and we are excited to collaborate with him as we build a slate of high-profile shows.”
In addition to his writing on both seasons of the multi-Emmy Award-winning STRANGER THINGS, Doble has also written for Jason Katims’s THE PATH, and Millar and Gough’s INTO THE BADLANDS. He began his career as a writer on FRINGE after taking part in the Warner Bros. Television Writer’s Program. He is a recipient of two WGA nominations for his work on STRANGER THINGS.
It’s going to get to the point where the digital providers are going to have all of the big brains in teevee all snapped up. If the more discerning cord-cutters didn’t have a reason to make the switch, sooner than later the options may dwindle to where they have no other choice.
