Over the weeks leading up to New York Comic-Con, Marvel Television and Netflix have been leading the breadcrumb trail to an incredibly well-received panel for MARVEL’S JESSICA JONES, with a series of short and sweet teasers – more tone -poems than actual trailers – which set up the world nicely.
That panel on Saturday 10th October also had the debut public airing for the first episode of this highly anticipated digital only series, due to be unleashed in just over a months time on Tuesday 20th November… and it brought the house down!
The series features Krysten Ritter as Jones, a former superhero who has opened her own detective agency, serving the more outlandish and incredible cases that fall across her path, following the end of her own superhero career. The show also stars Mike Colter, Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville and Erin Moriarty, with Rosario Dawson reprising her role as Claire Temple from Marvel Television‘s other foray into small screen action with Netflix, MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL.
Let’s remind ourselves, however, of the path taken in the dark streets of Hell’s Kitchen of our eponymous heroine…
And then, on Thursday 8th October, just as New York Comic Con was about to get under way, we got our first proper dialogue – and our first glance as the ominous threat Jones has to face in this first season.
Avid Doctor Who fans may recognise the piercing stare of Tenth Doctor DAVID TENNANT there, starring as the series big bad, Kilgrave, aka The Purple Man. Whilst in the comics, the character was an out-and-out superbaddie, the producers of the show have revealed that, like Wilson Fisk in MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL, his villainous nature may be more ambiguous than first thought.
Intense stuff, indeed – and we can’t wait to see what the show has in store. Expect to be seeing a lot of people taking the day off as they marathon the ten episodes in one gulp, a la DAREDEVIL. Plenty of bleary eyes on the way!
