The promotion for Josh Trank‘s forthcoming Fantastic Four reboot has been… not great. From an initial first teaser that may have set the tone of the final film but showed incredibly little, to the first sighting of The Thing on a poster on some random person’s Instagram, it’s almost as if the Marketing Department have been instructed to bury the whole thing and bury it HARD.
However, we may have seen a change in the wind, with the online release of a brand new trailer and poster – but the timing have could have been so much better! Really, 20th Century Fox Marketing Department? You decide to unveil the first proper look at your characters in full flight (or in actual flight, in the case of Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch) while everyone was either embracing the final moments of Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, still basking in the teaser reveal of Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One? Or while everyone else was fangirling over the new posters for Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice, shared by Zack Snyder on – shock, horror, surprise – on his Twitter? That’s when you decide to let these into the world, Fox?? Look, if you don’t want us to see the thing, just put it on Twitch, damn it!
Speaking of seeing The Thing, we finally get to see the final moving render of JAMIE BELL‘s CGI captured Ben Grimm, stomping around, punching things. No sample of his voice yet but we’re calling it: bass turned all the way up in the sound mix and processed to hell. Same goes for the slight reveal of the teams big baddie – Doom, now an internet blogger and not a Doctor in this incarnation, apparently – so fully expect to see and hear more as we get closer and closer to the film’s release on 7th August. (Not that we’re counting on Fox’s Marketing Department to shout that little nugget from the rooftops…!)
FANTASTIC FOUR, directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle) and produced by Simon Kinberg, MATTHEW VAUGHN and Gregory Goodman for 20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment, stars Miles Teller (Whiplash), Kate Mara (Transcendence), Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle) and JAMIE BELL (The Adventures Of Tintin) as the eponymous hero team, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. In the film, the team must learn to harness abilities gained from an alternative universe to save Earth from a former friend, turned enemy. After a protracted production, the film is finally due for release on 7th August, 2015.
