(UPDATE: 1st September 2017): SUICIDE SQUAD actress Cara Delevingne has also been added to the project – full info at the bottom of this post.)
Amazon today announced a new series coming to their Prime Video service in 2019. The series is a fantasy nor series about a police inspector investigating the killing of a faerie showgirl, and is titled CARNIVAL ROW – the eight episode series will be produced by Legendary Television and star ORLANDO BLOOM, who also acts as a Producer on the show. Well, that’ll be good for the IMDb credits, of course.
Each episode of CARNIVAL ROW will be one hour long, and the creative team behind the series include Rene Echevarria (Writer/Executive Producer), Paul McGuigan (Director/Executive Producer), and Travis Beacham (Executive Producer).
This isn’t the first time that the series has come close to being rendered on screen, originally featuring on the very first Hollywood Blacklist in 2005 – a highly touted pile of submitted scripts that gather heavy buzz around the studios, usually gathering huge wodges of cash and big names attached. Back then, Guillermo Del Toro (PAN’S LABYRINTH, HELLBOY) was the first name attached to the project when it was still called A KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW, before leaving for NEIL JORDAN (THE CRYING GAME, INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE) and Tarsem Singh (THE CELL, IMMORTALS) to orbit the concept.

Del Toro has always been someone close to CARNIVAL ROW, even as close as last Summer when he was lastly attached as the co-writer of a running series pilot before jumping ship and leaving PACIFIC RIM partner Beacham to it. With this official announcement of a limited run series – and with Orly attached – maybe, just maybe, this is the chance for the hound to finally leave the trap, after all this time.

Orlando Bloom to Star in Amazon Original Series CARNIVAL ROW, Produced by Legendary Television
Amazon today announced that Orlando Bloom is set to star in its original one-hour fantasy noir CARNIVAL ROW. Bloom will play Rycroft Philostrate, a police inspector investigating the murder of a faerie showgirl on Carnival Row. Rycroft is not supposed to care about the death of another faerish refugee, but he does, and getting to the bottom of what happened to her will come at a big cost. Bloom, who also serves as producer, most recently starred in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, reprising the role of Will Turner.
The eight-episode Amazon Original Series, produced by Legendary Television, will be written and executive produced by showrunner Rene Echevarria (STAR TREK, TEEN WOLF, CASTLE, MEDIUM). Joining Echevarria is Paul McGuigan (VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN, LUKE CAGE, SHERLOCK) who is set to direct and executive produce, and Travis Beacham (PACIFIC RIM, CLASH OF THE TITANS), who will serve as executive producer and wrote the original feature script, A KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW, which appeared on the very first installment of the Hollywood Blacklist in 2005. The series is scheduled to begin filming this fall for a 2019 release.
CARNIVAL ROW is a fantasy-noir set in a neo-Victorian city. Mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland have gathered in the city, and tensions are simmering between citizens and the growing immigrant population. We follow the investigation of a string of unsolved murders which are eating away at whatever uneasy peace still exists.
CARNIVAL ROW will be available using the Amazon Prime Video app for TVs, connected devices including Fire TV and mobile devices, or online at Amazon.com/originals. For a list of all Amazon Video compatible devices, visit http://www.amazon.com/howtostream. The series will be a global release for members to watch via the Prime Video app or online at PrimeVideo.com in more than 200 countries and territories.
