And Comic-Con International just keep rolling out the San Diego Comic-Con Special Guests – six more names have been announced for the weekend of Thursday 19th – Sunday 22nd July 2017; Preview Night, Wednesday 18th July, meaning that we are seeing no let up on the promise that 2018 will have the biggest line-up of industry and creative dignitaries in the show’s history. Unless they start dialling back to announcement batches of three! Yeah, we dont see them doing that any time soon, either.
‘This Seventh Wave brings the total of Special Guests to thirty-four, with today’s names joining Rafael Albuquerque, Marc Bernardin, Thi Bui, Cory Doctorow, Emil Ferris, Brian Fies, Andy Fish, Veronica Fish, Alex Grecian, Elizabeth Hand, Deborah Harkness, R. C. Harvey, Nalo Hopkinson, Larry F. Houston, E. K. Johnson, Lynn Johnston,Paul Levitz, Richard Liniers Siri, Jason Lutes, David Mack, Larry Marder, Scott McCloud, Mike Mignola, Terry Moore, Ann Nocenti, Jeff Smith, Peter J. Tomasi, and Tillie Walden at the Mariott Marquis hotel bar at some point during the con. Them celebs gotta relax somehow, man.

Excellent stuff – again, like last weeks selection, not all of these invited guest are what you would call ‘household names’, with possibly Jeff Lemire the biggest headliner of the bunch for a SDCC crowd – and let’s be fair, Maggie Thompson was always going to be on the guest list, she’s a much-loved, much-respected Comic-Con fixture-and-fitting. Still, it’s a strong set of names to add to the list and will draw their own crowds regardless.

Aminder Dhaliwal is a native of Brampton, Ontario, and received a Bachelors of Animation from Sheridan College. She now lives in Los Angeles, where she is the director at Disney TV Animation. Previously, she worked as a storyboard director at Cartoon Network and storyboard director on the Nickelodeon show SANJAY AND CRAIG.
She has serialized WOMAN WORLD biweekly on Instagram since March 2017, garnering 150,000 followers and a nomination for an Ignatz Award for Outstanding Online Comic. The WOMAN WORLD book will debut from Drawn & Quarterly at Comic-Con this July.

Jeff Lemire is the award-winning, New York Times-bestselling author of such graphic novels as ESSEX COUNTY, SWEET TOOTH, UNDERWATER WELDER, and ROUGHNECK, as well as co-creator of DESCENDER with Dustin Nguyen, BLACK HAMMER with Dean Ormston, PLUTONA with Emi Lenox, and AD: AFTER DEATH with Scott Snyder.
He also collaborated with celebrated musician Gord Downie on the graphic novel and album THE SECRET PATH, which was made into an animated film in 2016. Jeff has won numerous awards including an Eisner Award and Juno Award in 2017. He has also written extensively for both Marvel and DC Comics.
Many of his books are currently in development for film and television, including both DESCENDER and A.D. AFTER DEATH at Sony Pictures, ESSEX COUNTY at the CBC, and PLUTONA at Waypoint Entertainment, for which Lemire is writing the screenplay.
He lives in Toronto, Canada with his wife and son and their troublesome pug, Lola.

Randy Reynaldo is the writer, artist, and creator of the long-running ROB HANES ADVENTURES, an independent comic book series published under Randy’s WCG Comics imprint that debuted as a small press zine in the 1990s. The series is a contemporary comic book action-adventure series in the tradition of Will Eisner‘s SPIRIT and Milton Caniff‘s TERRY AND THE PIRATES that’s earned extensive coverage and numerous accolades from critics and industry trade publications. Issue 19 of the series will debut at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con where Randy has exhibited since 1993, as well as a fourth trade paperback volume compiling the series.

Award-winner Maggie Thompson recently came across a comic book that she’d bought when she was 3½, which means that that’s when she began collecting comic books. She and Don Thompson launched their COMIC ART fanzine when she was 17.
These days, she continues to collect, write, and edit in the course of a career that includes 30 years of COMICS BUYER’S GUIDE and her current monthly contribution to Comic-Con’s Toucan blog, weekly post for Gemstone Publishing’s SCOOP newsletter, and maintenance of her own www.maggiethompson.com website.
