The Saturday Hall H panel line-up is always an odd fish – bookended by the Warner Bros./DC Entertainment presentation and whatever is the final panel of the day (ain’t going to be Marvel, we know that much), there is always a very varied selection of programming that fills those slots, from WOMEN WHO KICK-ASS panels, to back-to-back MATT SMITH zombie movies, to random celebrations of beloved franchises.
This year, however, it appears that the programming team are pushing the oddity boat out even further with a panel that promises “Movies, Music and Martial Arts”, as rapper RZA presents a panel on his directorial heist drama debut, CUT THROAT CITY, for independent upstart Well Go USA. The film may have very, very recently been announced as being picked up for distribution by the company in 2019 but Well Go USA are wasting no time in showcasing the film’s talent, which includes Shameik Moore, Demtrius Shipp Jr., T.I., Wesley Snipes and Terrence Howard, the whole lot who have been invited to show up in San Diego – it is Hall H, after all, and they don’t just print out those name cards for just anybody.
The panel is announced for 2.45pm-3.45pm and will, no doubt, feature clips of the film in which the various egos punch each other in the face. What, generalising too much, you think? I can’t see Snipes, Howard and T.I. waxing rhapsodic verses of script dialogue in Shakespearian diction – the words ‘martial arts’ should give you a big clue of the tenor of this testosterone fuelled panel!
It’s not the only presentation that Well Go USA are bringing to San Diego, mind – on the Thursday evening of SDCC (19th July), in Room 6A, Ric Meyers will be presenting the 21st ANNUAL SUPERHERO KUNG FU EXPERIENCE, in which a whole bunch of movie nerds and action stars will take a look at the years biggest and baddest action movie sequences and fight scenes from the U.S. and Asia – it’ll also be the showcase for a new Filipino action thriller from Well Go USA, BUY BUST, directed by Erik Matti and starring Anne Curtis and Brandon Vera (Matti and Vera will be in attendance on this panel).
LET THEM FIGHT!!
