Home Con News SDCC 2017: Stephen King’s MR. MERCEDES, cast / panel confirmed for San...

Author Stephen King has been in the headlines lately – partly because of his rampant Twitter-bothering of the new Trump Administration (okay, mostly just the Donald personally, tbh), partly because of the new series, based on his seminal short story THE MIST, has hit the small screen this week to positive reviews, and mostly because THE DARK TOWER is inching closer and closer to hitting the big screen. But those are not the only King properties that we can expect to see represented at San Diego Comic-Con next month (Thursday 20th – Sunday 23rd July; Preview Night, Wednesday 19th July).

The Edgar Award-winning crime novel MR. MERCEDES, published back in 2014 and adapted for AT&T Audience / U-Verse by David E. Kelley (CHICAGO HOPE, BOSTON LEGAL), is confirmed for its own panel at SDCC 2017 on Sunday 23rd from 1.30pm-2.30pm (Room: TBC). Kelley himself won’t be there but director Jack Bender and cast Harry Tredaway, Holland Taylor, Kelly Lynch, Jharrel Jerome and Breeda Wool will be on hand to explain what it’s taken to bring King’s imagination to t’telly – they’ll hopefully be charming and persuasive enough to hook enough people on board, seeing as MR. MERCEDES is the first book in a trilogy of novels, meaning this could be a tasty gig for the cast if it lands well with audiences.

No doubt there will be a couple of solemn words and tributes on stage, too as Treadaway replaced the late Anton Yelchin in the role of Brady Hartsfield, early in production. The cast also features BRENDAN GLEESON in the lead role as Det. Bill Hodges but unfortunately he isn’t listed as participating in the panel – perhaps the harsh California climes are too much for Gleeson’s sensitive Irish complexion! Never mind…

MR. MERCEDES is scheduled to premiere on the 9th August, 2017, and we’ve already had a series trailer, so expect a fair few clips to be shown as part of the presentation.
