Home Con News SDCC 2015: ‘Creative’ Pro Registration to open ‘sometime in February’; applicants to...

logo - comic-con thumbnail (distressed)The San Diego Comic-Con Professional Registration application period came to a close back in October last year, and some have been receiving word on whether they have been accepted or denied for Pro status over the last few weeks, but now an update on the Comic-Con International website has been posted on how these creatives to actually get their hands on those complimentary badges – and it looks like they will have to brave the same system that regular attendees do: the dreaded EPIC Waiting Room.

This system – introduced two and a half years ago for the 2013 Pre-Registration Badge Sales – has been the method that attendees have landed (or been shut out of) those prized SDCC Badges in recent years, but 2015 is the first year that Professional Attendees must face the same gauntlet. This is part of CCI’s clamping down on complementary badges and their efforts to get more paying attendees through the hallowed San Diego Convention Center doors.

There have also been announcements on how many people a professional can register to join them (two: one complementary and/or one paid), the cost of these badges (£145/$220, irrespective of age, adult or junior – child badges are free) instructions on how the Waiting Room will work (exactly how it’s worked for Regular Attendees in previous years) and the best optimal browser settings. The post also reminds that this Febraury Pro Badge Sale is for the Creative arts professionals only and Trade professionals will get their chance ‘in the spring’. Nothing like cutting things close to get stuff organised, right?

From the Comic-Con International website:

Creative professional badge registration for Comic-Con 2015 will open sometime in February.  If you are a creative professional and your professional verification status is NOT DUE, please check your email frequently for additional details regarding badge registration and your personal registration code. Your personal registration code will be sent to you at least 72 hours prior to registration and will be accessible through your Comic-Con Member ID account.

Due to the extremely high demand for complimentary professional guest badges, we are implementing an online waiting room feature that will alleviate some of the technical difficulties you may have experienced during registration last year. This system, known as the EPIC waiting room, has been extensively tested and used successfully for Comic-Con attendee badge sales for the past few years. We strongly encourage you to read all of the information below to prepare for online professional badge registration.

Each professional may register one complimentary guest and/or one paid guest while supplies last. Please keep in mind that entry into the EPIC waiting room does not guarantee you a complimentary guest badge for Comic-Con 2015. You can increase your chances of obtaining a complimentary guest badge by reading all of the instructions below carefully and having your personal information ready on the day of registration. Professional and guest badges in both categories (paid or complimentary) are limited and not all guests can be accommodated. The online professional badge registration does not have a predetermined close date and will close – without notification – when professional badges are no longer available.
Professional guest badges can be used to register an adult or junior guest (age 13 to 17). The badge price is the same ($220), whether the guest is a junior or an adult, when purchased through professional registration. To receive the attendee junior badge price, we recommend purchasing an attendee junior badge during Open Online Registration for the general public. Children age 12 and under are free with a professional badge and do not count toward your guest limit. Child badges must be registered onsite at Industry Registration in Lobby D.
Trade professional registration will open later this spring. Trade professionals may not register for a Comic-Con badge during creative professional registration.

You will need your personal registration code to access the EPIC waiting room. Your personal registration code will be sent to you, via email,  at least 72 hours prior to registration and will be accessible through your Comic-Con Member ID account. The EPIC waiting room will open at 9:00 AM Pacific Time (PT) for you to enter the waiting room and authorize your device. Although there is no advantage in arriving to the waiting room early, you must enter your code before 10:00 AM PT or you will not be eligible to participate. The EPIC waiting room will close for entry at 10:00 AM PT.
Remember, there is no need to rush to the landing page at 9:00 AM PT! Eligible professionals will have one hour to authorize their registration codes and access the waiting room. Please keep in mind that the waiting room will close to new entrants at 10:00 AM PT sharp. Each registration code is good for one entry into the EPIC Registration waiting room. Do not share your personal registration code! Your registration code will authorize one browser and one device only. If you share your registration code with another person or attempt to enter your registration code on multiple devices or browsers, the new device/browser will be authorized and your old session will expire.
There is one very important thing to remember about the EPIC waiting room: Do Not Refresh! The waiting room will automatically refresh every 120 seconds. If the blue circle is spinning, your page is active! Refreshing your browser in the waiting room may cause technical difficulties or remove you from the waiting room.
Professional registration will begin shortly after 10:00 AM PT and EPIC will begin randomly moving groups from the waiting room to a registration session.  It does not matter what time you entered the waiting room, you will be moved at random sometime after 10:00 AM PT. It is very important that you do not refresh your browser at 10:00 AM PT or you could lose your spot in the waiting room.  It is important that you pay close attention while in the waiting room since you could be moved into your registration session at any time.
If you are accidentally removed from the waiting room or lose connectivity, simply return to the EPIC landing page and enter your registration code again. You will be put back with the same group you were in previously. This only applies to registration codes that were authorized prior to 10:00 AM PT.

When you are moved from the EPIC waiting room to a registration session, you will need to enter your professional Comic-Con Member ID and last name. To review this information, log in to your Member ID account and select the “Registration Info” tab.
When you reach the badge selection page, all available badge inventory will be shown. Please keep in mind that badge inventory will not refresh while you are on this page. If your desired guest badge type is unavailable, select another category or close your registration session.
*Important* It is critical that you do not use your browser’s back button during any step of your registration session! Using the back button at any point during the registration process could potentially cause the system to error out or release your badges back into inventory. Comic-Con International cannot guarantee that your EPIC registration session will behave as expected if you use your back button during any step of the registration process.

The EPIC online badge registration system has been tested on the following browsers. We cannot guarantee your results should you use a browser not listed below:
Firefox: Any Version
Google Chrome: Any Version
Internet Explorer: Version 8 or later
Safari: Any Version
Attempting to register for badges online using multiple browser tabs can confuse the badge registration process and cause your transaction to fail. Only use one browser tab when trying to register for badges, in order to avoid technical difficulties with your transaction.
Your browser should have JavaScript and cookies enabled to function reliably with the EPIC waiting room. These features are usually enabled in the default configuration of most modern web browsers. If you do not have these features enabled, it is possible that the waiting room application will not function properly.
Also, make sure your computer’s power saving settings are off or adjust them if needed. You don’t want your computer to power down or go to sleep while you’re in the waiting room.

The EPIC online badge registration system is not formatted for iPads, tablets, or mobile devices. Although mobile devices have been tested and can be used to register for a badge during professional registration, Comic-Con is unable to guarantee that the registration system will behave as expected using a mobile device.

While Comic-Con has made every effort to make the badge registration experience fair for everyone, it is possible that problems outside of our control could result in the system not working as planned. The possibility exists that anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware software may aggressively block browser cookies, JavaScript, or other operation of modern web applications. It is also possible that user error, specific hardware problems, local ISP issues, or simply the extremely high level of demand beyond our control may result in your computer and/or browser not behaving as described above. While Comic-Con has done extensive testing, we make no guarantees that your efforts will result in a successful badge registration regardless of when you enter the process.
