SDCC 2015: An Englishman In San Diego confirmed as ‘Wrath Of Con Bloggers’ Panel Guest!

Time to unveil a piece of exciting news which we have been asked to keep under wraps for the last couple of weeks, pending confirmation from Comic-Con International… But now the basics been confirmed – and, hell, Tony B. Kim has only gone and tweeted about it – I can finally let the cat out of the bag: Yours Truly, Leonard Sultana, An Englishman In San Diego, is going to be an honest-to-goodness SDCC Panel Guest, appearing on stage and talking like I actually belong there and not like some deranged gatecrasher, begging to be turfed out by the scruff of the neck!

I will be up on stage, alongside my fellow con bloggers, Megan Gotch (The Nerdy Girlie), Alyssa Franks (Friends Of CCI Forum) and moderator/panel organiser Tony B. Kim (Crazy 4 Comic Con) for THE WRATH OF CON BLOGGERS panel, as we talk about the unique phenomenon of an entire online community that has sprung up in support of, what is at the end of the day, a convention. You don’t see this kind of thing happening for Scented Candles Expo or ButterflyCollectorCon, for heavens sake! What is so special about San Diego Comic-Con that an entire network of bloggers, vloggers, website creators and media companies has flourished and grown – almost alongside the rise of San Diego Comic-Con‘s popularity – in support of it? Why do we run the sites like this very one you’re reading? And what impact do they have on the event itself? Are they a blessing – or a curse – on the rise of con culture?

I find this a thoroughly fascinating subject, I cannot wait to talk about it with other interested people, and I really hope that you will find the time in your con diary to join us – I appreciate, though, that other attractions may pull you away during SDCC so I’ll be doing my best to make sure that the panel is either live-streamed or recorded for you to watch back at a later date. The other panellists and myself have been given a rough idea of when the panel will take place but, until Tony is given the go-ahead by CCI, we have been asked to keep the timing of the panel quiet for the time being, until the whole schedule has been finalised by CCI.

Suffice to say, if I find that Marvel Studios have changed their minds and they are coming to Comic-Con, and we’re scheduled opposite them, I ain’t gonna be a happy bunny! Watch this space – more details to come!
