We’re already two weeks into 2014 and already we’re beginning to hear about off-site events, possible company appearances and exclusives – but nothing yet about what CCI are doing to prepare… Until now! Potential attendees can now start to budget their trip to San Diego with the announcement of badge prices.
While fans of Comic-Con International are still on tenterhooks about a forthcoming date for badge sales, CCI are determined to keep updates coming about pre-registration, including the introduction of a new dedicated category for the Toucan Blog, sounding very much like they don’t want people to think they’ve forgotten about them!
In the meantime, a page has been uncovered on the CCI webpage, listing the badge prices for this year.
The prices for Thursday, Friday and Saturday badges are $45.00 each (£27.30, approx) with the Sunday badges priced at $30.00 (£18.21 approx), coming to a collected price of $165 (a nice round one hundred quid, approx) for the collected four days. (The currency conversions are approx, of course, due to the flighty and fickle nature of exchange rates but these are the numbers as provided by Citibank on the day of writing, Friday 10th January, and should only be taken as a rough guide to the prices in proper UK money.)
Preview Night badges will be available to those lucky few who land all four days at a total price of $200 (£121.40 approx). This is an price increase of $25.00 on last year, something we expected to happen, as it was addressed by David Glanzer (CCI Director of Press / Public Relations) in the Google+ Hangout with this writer last October.
The main piece of news that comes out of this announcement is the scrapping of the Four Day Badge, replaced by a consolidated badge, issued at the Con itself – prior to the event, badges can now only be bought for days individually. This is a change which removes the emphasis on buying for the whole con, something that CCI have been pushing for the last few years; this just makes it official. While some will take this as a removal of a simple single click option, it now ties in with the online selection options of recent badge sales.
“New for 2014! Only single day badges will be sold. The Preview Night badge option may only be purchased if you buy a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badge. Preview Night is not a stand alone badge option. As in 2013, anyone who purchases a Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday badge will have the option of consolidating them into one 4-Day badge onsite.”
(All info, including details for Miltary and Child Badges, can be found on the page which these details were taken from: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/2014-cci-badge-preregistration)
As of yet, we have no dates yet for any Badge Sales, even Pre-Registration for returning attendees, something which is giving some commentators on forums some pressing concern. Have CCI left the process too late? Do the empty updates by CCI sound like stalling for time as technical issues mount behind-the-scenes? How will the scrapping of a Four Day Badge option change the habits of anxious would-be attendees? Comments below for your thoughts and opinions, everyone…
