With Long Beach Comic Con now over (see a recap/photo gallery from the show here), it’s time to get ready for the next convention in the calendar. Who Con San Diegotaking place from September 8th-10th 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley.

The show has a number of guests who appeared on DOCTOR WHO over the years including headliners Frazer Hines (‘Jamie McCrimmon’, the companion to the second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton), Morgan Sheppard (who has appeared on TV shows including MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, STAR TREK, NCIS, but also appeared on DOCTOR WHO as the older version of ‘Canton Everett Delaware III’) and Chase Masterson, best known for her role as Leeta in STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE but who has also lent her voice to some Doctor Who audiobooks from Main Range, and many more.


Frazer Hines

Frazer played Jamie McCrimmon, kilt-wearing companion to the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton). Frazer appeared in the series regularly from 1966 to 1969, earning himself a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest running companion of the Doctor. He returned to the show twice, as a cameo in the 30th-anniversary show ‘The Five Doctors’ (1983), and alongside Patrick Troughton and Colin Baker in ‘The Two Doctors’ (1985).

Frazer has continued his association with Doctor Who since, appearing in and narrating several of the audio adventures published by Big Finish. He has also provided audio commentaries for several of his stories when released on DVD and has narrated some of the soundtrack releases put out by BBC Audio and AudioGO.


Morgan Sheppard

Morgan is a well-respected actor whose screen credits include Mysterious Island, Dexter, Star Trek, NCIS and much more. Morgan is best known to Whovians for his portrayal of the older version of Canton Everett Delaware III (the younger version is played by his son Mark Sheppard) in the Doctor Who episode, “The Impossible Astronaut”.


Chase Masterson

Chase is best known for her role of Leeta in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Chase has teamed up with 7th Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, for the Main Range audiobook“The Shadow Heart”. “The Shadow Heart” is the climax of a trilogy that spans three Doctors, beginning with “The Burning Prince” (Fifth Doctor) and “The Acheron Pulse” (Sixth Doctor).

Doc Phineas

Doc Phineas has been a Professor of Archaeology and Antiquities for over 45 years and is the world’s leading authority on antiquities. He has been featured on Pawn Stars, Treasure Quest, and Antiques Roadshow. He is currently starring in the new movie, “To See the Elephants”. A serious Doctor Who fan and trivia master, Doc will be bringing his own special brand of flair to Who Con 2017, and will be performing with The Velveteen Band at Who Con’s Saturday Night Dance Party!

Ben Paddon

Ben Paddon is a British-born writer, actor and geek humorist living in Los Angeles. He’s fast becoming a fixture of the SoCal convention scene and can be found moderating panels and MC’ing at events such as Long Beach Comic Expo and WhedonCon in Los Angeles. As a comedian, he has performed stand-up at Anime LA, Anime Expo, and NinjaCon, and once did a set as part of a one-hour show on a northbound Amtrak train. Ben is a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, even though he was born during those rough Colin Baker years. Ben enjoys sitcoms, video games, eating Pop Tarts, and writing biographies of himself in the third person.

River Alexandra Song (cosplayer extraordinaire)

River Alexandra Song – (not the divine Ms. Kingston) – just River… with many lives and many names. Her friends call her River. Writer, actress, producer, director, sometime singer, currently escaping from the Stormcage where she puts in time daily and escapes as often as she likes. River loves games, travel, and of course, The Doctor. To say more would only mean SPOILERS – and we can’t have that!

Paul J. Salamoff

Paul has worked for over 25 years in Film, TV, Video Games and Commercials as a Writer, Producer, Director, Executive, Comic Creator and Make-Up FX Artist. His Film & TV writing credits include The Dead Hate The Living (co-written with Dave Parker), The St. Francisville Experiment and Alien Siege for the SyFy channel. He was recently named one of The Tracking Board’s Top 100 up & coming Screenwriters and has developed projects with Warner Bros., Mosaic Media Group, Hollywood Gang, Silver Pictures, Valhalla Motion Pictures, Vertigo, Unstoppable Entertainment (UK) and Eclectic Pictures. Paul is the author of ON THE SET: The Hidden Rules of Movie Making Etiquette, The Complete DVD Book and several graphic novels. He is a two-time Bram Stoker Award Nominee. Salamoff is currently in post-production on his feature-film debut Encounter, a Sci-Fi/Drama that stars Luke Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Cheryl Texiera and Tom Atkins. Paul is also the owner of the original TARDIS Console prop from the 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie and a frequent guest and panelist at Sci-Fi & media conventions.

The Velveteen Band

The Velveteen Band is an eclectic musical side show which delivers a wonderland dreamscape, set to capture the imagination and rock you to the core. The theatrical rock ensemble features puppets on vocals, a deranged mad scientist, and is led by a six-foot trumpet playing rabbit named the Baron Von Velveteen. For fans of Gogol Bordello, Aquabats, Danny Elfman, Weird Al Yankovic, They Might be Giants, and the Muppets.


Gill Sotu

Gill Sotu is a poet, musician, and writer, who weaves poetry into musical performances and improvisation, with a forceful undercurrent of soulful, comedic, thought-provoking passion that engages and inspires his audiences throughout California. He has opened for Grammy-nominated legend Sheila E, partnered and performed with the San Diego Symphony, has been commissioned to create numerous poetry pieces for the United Way of San Diego, San Diego’s Fashion Week, and performed the closing number for TEDx San Diego in December 2013.

Tony Palkovic Jr.

Tony P. is a singer/songwriter from Chula Vista, CA.  He is also currently hosting one of San Diego’s most popular Open Mic’s “Open Mic at the Rooftop” in La Jolla every Tuesday night.

House of Scotland Pipe Band

The House of Scotland Pipe Band takes great pride in being the official band of the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages in beautiful Balboa Park. Founded in 1964, the band recently competed at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland to commemorate their 50th anniversary. Under the leadership of Pipe Major Ross Naismith, the House of Scotland Pipe Band performs throughout San Diego and the Western United States, taking part in competitions, festivals, and parades.
