Thirty years ago, a anarchic team of para-psychologists from New York burst onto the big screen and busted some ghosts! And now, to celebrate the anniversary of the release of ‘Ghostbusters’, Sony are organising a whole host of licensed merchandise and special events – including a bunch of off-site events, concluding at San Diego Comic-Con in July.
Sony has partnered with pop culture art gallery Gallery 1988 to create a travelling art show, featuring top artists’ interpretations of ‘Ghostbusters’ over the last 30 years. Limited edition screen prints and posters will be available during each stop of the tour, which winds up in at SDCC.
In Sony’s press release, the company’s SVP for global consumer products, Greg Economos, says:
“This franchise is very important to the studio, and we wanted to give fans new and exciting ways to participate. Ghostbusters continues to gain fans and recognition year after year, and we are thrilled to extend the brand through products and events to celebrate this milestone event.”
A whole host of signed licensees are on board to celebrate the anniversary, including a number that are expected to present their wares on the Exhibition Floor, including Mattel, IDW Publishing, Factory Entertainment, Diamond Select, Titan Figures and Funko. If you thought the Avengers Funko figures made getting around that booth a tough gig last year, just wait till you see the scramble for the ones based on Venkman, Slimer and Marshmellow Man!
Any chance I might get my hands on an unlicensed nuclear accelerator, I’ll be a happy bunny. What Ghostbusters item would you like to see as a Con Exclusive? Comments below, people.
