Just when you’d think that Chris Hardwick – the Crown Princelet of SDCC Hall H and all-round nerd social butterfly – had enough on his plate, earlier this year he only went and announced the creation of his own festival, encompassing his two big passions of music and comedy: ID10T Festival, the first of which will be held this June in Silicon Valley, California (24th – 25th June 2017).
Chris is already the host of his regular Nerdist Podcast, the face of game show hits THE WALL and @MIDNIGHT, and the man on the sofa for TALKING DEAD, TALKING SAUL and new chat show TALKING WITH CHRIS HARDWICK (that’s a lot of talking; the guy must gargle with the blood of virgins).
Now, Chris is putting on and curating this mammoth two-day event which will take over the Shoreline Amphitheatre and surrounding grounds in Mountain View California, just over the rise from where all the nerds invent the future and stuff.
The social media for the event is whirring into life, with both their Twitter and Facebook feeds laying out the framework for what attendees can expect, once they put fashionably patterned boots on the ground – bands like Weezer, OK Go!, TV On the Radio, Girl Talk and The Mowgli’s are already lined up for the Main Stage, with talents such as Demetri Martin, Michael Ian Black, Garfunkel & Oates (bloody love them!!), Brian Posehn and Nerdist‘s own Jonah Ray are set to ‘rock the mic’ on the Monster Energy Drink Comedy Stage. Monster Energy!! Living the dream!!!
Today, the organisers have announced that it’s not just going to be tunes and giggles up for grabs at the Festival – you’ve got a Dance & Cosplay Tent (I have got to see pictures of how THAT plays out!); also, an Exhibitor Village featuring comic artists and companies space, including some of the biggest creative talent from publishers such as Skybound, Valiant Entertainment, Oni Press, Boom! Studios and also our good friends at AfterShock. And during the day, before the tunes rock out, attendees can also catch featured panels from a number of TV and movie casts on back-to-back panels and podcasts – the first of which have just been unveiled:
PORTLANDIA, featuring guests Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, moderated by Chris Hardwick
MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000, featuring guests Jonah Ray, Hampton Yount, and Rebecca Hanson, moderated by Wil Wheaton.
HARMONTOWN, featuring guests Dan Harmon, Jeff B. Davis, and Spencer Crittenden.
STAN AGAINST EVIL, featuring guests John C McGinley, Janet Varney, and Dana Gould.
IFC’s original horror comedy series Stan Against Evil is currently in production for its second season. Created, written and executive produced by Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation), Stan Against Evil stars John C. McGinley (Scrubs) and Janet Varney (You’re the Worst). Stan Against Evil follows Stan Miller (McGinley), a perpetually disgruntled former sheriff of a small New England town who was forced into retirement. Stan has trouble relinquishing his authority to Evie Barret (Varney), the tough and beautiful new sheriff in town, but they form an unlikely alliance when both begin to realize things are not quite right in their quaint New England town. Together, they valiantly fight a plague of unleashed demons that have been haunting the town, which just happens to be built on the site of a massive 17th century witch burning.
Not too shabby, huh?
Tickets for the Festival are still up for grabs right now, by heading to https://id10tfest.frontgatetickets.com/, and you can also keep a track on fresh developments, either by keeping an eye on our own dedicated Event Page for ID10T Festival in our International Conventions Calendar, or by following the Festival on their website, on Facebook, Twitter and on Instagram.
